#1011 Powerful Women Ahead of Their Time

Instructor: Marcy Heidish Dolan

Heroines are compelling, whether they are haloed or beheaded. They intrigue us, these women: iconic — but not always angelic. Trailblazers all, risk-takers most, they challenge us as never before. In this course we will explore the “heroine archetype” in America and abroad, through such examples as Harriet Tubman, Underground Railroad conductor; “Mother” Mary Jones, pioneering labor leader; Martha Graham, founder of modern dance; Immaculée Ilibagiza, Rwandan rebel; Malala Yousafzai, Pakistani activist; Corrie ten Boom, holocaust resister, and many more.  Come for insight and inspiration.

Marcy Heidish Dolan, MA in Dramatic Literature from American University, Washington, D.C.  She has been an instructor of Adult Education for over 20 years and has performed social work at a women's shelter for over 20 years.  She has also been a Hotline volunteer for two years.
